Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) are bodily injuries or discomfort caused by long-term engagement in specific work activities. Common WRMSDs include neck, shoulder, and back pain, wrist and arm fatigue, eye strain, and headaches. These conditions are often associated with repetitive motions, poor posture, prolonged static positions, and heavy lifting. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) attributes WRMSDs primarily to poor circulation of qi and blood, blockage of meridians, and damage to muscles and tendons. Therefore, the goal of TCM treatment for WRMSDs is to alleviate symptoms and improve overall well-being by regulating qi and blood, unblocking meridians, relieving muscle tension, and promoting recovery. TCM practitioners may utilize herbal medicine, acupuncture, tuina massage, and recommend appropriate rest and exercise to help alleviate work-related musculoskeletal issues.
